This year 176 entries were showcased before an audience of 500. 12 finalists were selected on the combination of their points for Technical Excellence and Creative Excellence.
The BERNINA Costume Design Competition is held in conjunction with the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand’s, Sheilah Winn Festival of Shakespeare in Schools.

This year’s winner was Rachel McDonald, Wanganui High School with Titania from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Wanganui High School students also won 2nd and the two 3rd equal prizes.
The Supreme Winner and other placings were announced at SGCNZ's National University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival Award Ceremony in Wellington on 3 June 2012.
Congratulations to Judith Ross from Christchurch, whose stunning quilt Mandala Magic, took out the Best of Show honours at the 2011 Aotearoa Quilters Exhibition in Hamilton.
Sally Bollinger of Western Springs College has taken out the Supreme Award at the 2011 Bernina/Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand (SGCNZ) Costume Design Competition, with Titania from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
