In year 10 she decided that work experience packing shelves at Woolworths would not do and found herself in the heart of St Peters working next to two of Sydney's costume specialists, making costumes for the Hi-5 stage production – gigantic fairy wings and large Brazilian head-dresses for the David Jones Spring Festival. After surviving the HSC and being accepted into the Diploma course, she couldn't have asked for a more exciting and full on, first year out of high school; meeting the Speedo Australia design team and having her completed design displayed in the Powerhouse museum, working with the staff of Anthony Phillips Costumes on Mary Poppins and finding herself walking to the front of presentation night to collect a brand new Bernina sewing machine for the Commercial Viability of her final project. The project included a 6 piece Summer 2011/12 women's fashion range inspired by the label, Limedrop and the midsummer safari adventures of a bygone era where the rich sought the secrets of a distant land.
Megan hopes to continue her studies into the field of Costume, specialising in the elegant gowns and tutus of the Ballet. She hopes that her studies continue to provide amazing opportunities and in the future her work inspires the imaginations of her audience as the theatre as done for her.
Megan's message about her range:
Welcome to Summer 2011/12 and a return to long balmy days spent lounging in the sun. This season, perfectly contrasted colours of sunflower yellow and cyan blue mix together against navy and beige to remind us of a bygone era of elegant, picture perfect safari adventures. We're taken to a time where curiosity for travel brewed deep within the rich who sought the secrets of a distant land. Curves of yellow and blue blend playfully like the ripples of sand dunes laid out only metres from the River Nile, while an African sunset at the end of a fashionable day adds a warm red glow to the colour palette. Whilom's new range invites you to delve deep into the mysteries and legends we seek in our imaginations. We wish you all the best in your adventures... Love, Megan.
