Eileen Campbell

Eileen Campbell

Eileen Campbell is a textile artist, pattern designer, author of four books and teacher. She has won numerous awards for her quilts both in Australia and overseas. Her quilts are appliqued, embroidered and quilted using her wonderful Bernina machines.

Eileen believes she could not achieve the detail and accuracy of stitch that she aspires to without her Bernina machine and that Bernina enhances the technical aspects of her work. Her subjects are mainly inspired from nature often with very fine detail.

«My Bernina copes beautifully; it is so reliable and an absolute pleasure to stitch on.»

Eileen Campbell lives in Melbourne Australia. She worked as a Primary School Teacher for many years. Eileen always had an interest and expertise in the art craft area; weaving and related textile arts, fabric printing (a major subject for an Art Course), bookbinding and photography being her favourites.
In 1984 she began patchwork and quilting in the traditional style and loved it from the beginning.

Today she works mainly in applique, designing and exhibiting her art quilts. Her designs usually incorporate flora and fauna whether from nature or imagination. Her work is often embellished with beads and braids. Recently she has also been using sprays, foils and ink-jet printable fabric on her quilts.
All this is achieved using her trusted Bernina which she says ‘…is an absolute joy to work on. The stitches are perfect and even and it is so easy to change to free-machining for embroidering and quilting. I couldn’t achieve what I do without it’.
