BERNINA Firmware Update in Apple Mac OS X

This information bulletin is directed at Apple Mac users

In it, we highlight possible ways of successfully carrying out a BERNINA firmware update using an Apple Mac computer.

Information:
Firmware for BERNINA sewing machines is available as an .EXE file in a .ZIP container on this page.

Use of Emulators:
Since the .EXE format is based on Windows, this CANNOT be carried out in Apple Mac OS X.  To enable Windows programs to be run in Mac OS X despite this, there are software emulators for Apple Mac (Wikipedia, Emulator).

Important:
The applications mentioned in the Download Area consist of user programs ("freeware") in the public domain that are available free of charge.

Note:
The downloading of the firmware as well as the update process as such remains exactly the same, and information on these processes can be gleaned from the appropriate download instructions.

Use of BootCamp:
In addition to the use of an emulator, OS X offers a further suitable and supported way of running the BERNINA embroidery software.  This consists of installing Windows on a current Apple Mac using BootCamp, and  unzipping the firmware in this manner. The following link in the download area, shows how to install BootCamp and Windows on an Apple Mac.

Use of the free emulators is at one's own risk.
