Duncan created a costume for the character of the ghost of Hamlet's father, which he constructed of armour made from silver windscreen sun shields and a tunic and tights of ink stained muslin. Winning this competition provided Duncan with an opportunity, as the sole costume designer, to join 46 young actors and directors for a week long National Shakespeare Schools Production in Wellington in late September. From there, half the students were invited to travel to the United Kingdom for three weeks of lectures, work shops and work experience at the Globe Theatre in London and in Stratford-Upon-Avon. Duncan also won $500 for his winning entry.
