BERNINA DEALER IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA SUPPORTS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS MAKING QUILTS TO IMPROVE MATH SKILLS

BERNINA of America, the premier manufacturer of sewing, embroidery and quilting machines, is pleased to announce that Wandering Stitches Quilting Studio, an  authorized BERNINA Dealer in Orlando, Fla., recently donated quilting supplies and expertise to students at an area high school to help improve their math skills.  Cathy Harrington, the fashion design teacher at Harmony High School in Harmony, Fla., challenged her students to create the quilts and display them at the Osceola County Fair, February 8 - 17.  A quilter herself, Ms. Harrington saw this as an opportunity to strengthen her students' math skills because quilting requires a great deal of intricate measuring.  To celebrate the students' achievement, Wandering Stitches is donating a BERNINA 710 sewing machine and a BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR) to Harmony High School, to be presented during an April visit by fourth-generation BERNINA owner Hanspeter Ueltschi.

"Through the support of Wandering Stitches Quilting Studio, my students were able to apply the math skills they have been learning in school to a real-world situation," said Cathy Harrington, Harmony High School fashion design teacher.  "The students are very proud of their work, and their families are asking them to make more quilts."

"We visited the class and spoke to the students about sewing and quilting techniques, and it was amazing to watch their progress.  We look forward to seeing the quilts displayed at the fair."
