BERNINA TO TEACH SEWING DESIGN CAMPS AT ALT DESIGN SUMMIT, JANUARY 23 – 26 IN SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH

Fashion and lifestyle bloggers will receive hands-on instruction in creating yo-yo necklaces, backpacks and jewelry stash bags

BERNINA of America, the premier manufacturer of sewing, embroidery and quilting machines, is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring three "Design Camps" at this year's Alt Design Summit for fashion and lifestyle bloggers, January 23 - 26 in Salt Lake City, Utah. In these hands-on sessions, attendees will use BERNINA sewing machines to create fabric yo-yo necklaces, backpacks and jewelry stash bags. The design camps are presented in partnership with the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) crafting Web site Kollabora.

The fourth annual Alt Design Summit is an opportunity for design and lifestyle bloggers in all forms - foodies, photographers, travelers, fashionistas, interior designers, product placers and adventurers - to come together, share ideas and learn more about the business and creative side of blogging.  Attendees can expect panel discussions, professional advice and plenty of chances to network.  The three-day event, as well as the BERNINA & Kollabora Design Camps, have been sold out for weeks.

The three Design Camps will have different instructors and craft projects, but all of them focus on sewing.  Attendees will use BERNINA 330 and 350 PE machines to work on the following projects.

  • Yo-Yo Necklace - Marigold Haske, a sewing instructor and blogger at Hideous! Dreadful! Stinky!, will show attendees how to make fabric yo-yo's that can be turned into a necklace, a home decor piece or a fashionable update to a wardrobe.  Attendees will learn basic sewing skills that can be used on an endless number of projects.
  • Backpacks - Instructor Rachel Faucett is a contracted blog contributor to the BERNINA Web site WeAllSew.  Since 2009, she has authored Handmade Charlotte, a daily design and DIY crafts blog focused on kids & families.  Ms. Faucett's Design Camp will be a refresher class in sewing, and attendees will create a backpack that also can be used as a wine tote or kid's accessory.
  • Jewelry Stash - Ashley Rose, whose Sugar & Cloth blog focuses on crafts, DIY and thrift finds, will lead a session on creating a geometric jewelry pendant and a jewelry bag.
Alt Design Summit is the premier business conference for pioneering and rookie bloggers alike.  Started in 2009 by sisters Sara Urquhart and Gabrielle Blair of the blog Design Mom, along with Kate Schoening, Alt Design Summit is expected to draw 700 attendees from the United States and around the world.  Last year, Alt Design added a summit in New York City, and is planning a third conference in San Francisco.  For more information about Alt Design Summit, please visit https://www.altitudesummit.com/.

Kollabora is a social platform for DIYers, consisting of a craft supply marketplace and multiple maker communities linking to projects, supplies, and how-tos.  Kollabora has launched sewing, knitting, and jewelry-making communities with fashion-forward projects, and it plans to expand into many more DIY communities, including home decor.  For more information about Kollabora, please visit www.kollabora.com.
