BERNINA DEALER HOSTING QUILTING CLASSES BY NATIONAL INSTRUCTORS, MAY 18 – 20

Additionally, Modern Domestic is hosting a free social hour on Friday, May 17, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., after the first day of the International Quilt Market Portland, which runs May 17 - 19. All events are taking place at the recently expanded Dealer store, located at 1408 NE Alberta St.

The social hour will offer light snacks and drinks, and a chance to meet with aspiring designers, authors and members of Modern Domestic's talented quilting and sewing community. The event is being supported by the Portland Modern Quilt Guild (PMQG) and Pendleton® Woolen Mills.
The classes being offered include:

  • “Values Quilt Class,” with Cheryl Arkison, Saturday, May 18, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. A beginners class focusing on determining value, regardless of color, in a pile of fabric. Students will also get a lesson in easy half-square triangle construction, values determination and quilt design basics. Class fee: $65. Cheryl is a writer, quilt designer and teacher.   • “Olive Wall Hanging,” with Carolyn Friedlander, Monday, May 20, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. This class is perfect for students with some paper-piecing experience who are ready to try a more challenging project. Carolyn will walk them through each step of creating their own graphic trees, while also offering tips on fabric and color strategy, working with directional fabrics, maximizing scraps and other tips for finishing an Olive quilt top.
