BERNINA’s DesignWorks Software Suite offers three modules, the CutWork, PaintWork and CrystalWork components, turning embroidery machines into mixed media tools. Each module may be used independently or in combination with the others. With CutWork, shapes, patterns and designs are cut from multiple layers of fabric. PaintWork allows the application of pen drawings to fabric and textiles. Crystal appliqué patterns are created for textiles and garments using CrystalWork.

The B 880 boasts plenty of space, with a full 12 inches to the right of the needle for sewing and jumbo embroidery, and has a fast sewing speed of 1,200 stitches per minute. Sewists can create unique embroidery arrangements with the new Shaping feature and modify the colors of their embroideries with the new Color Wheel. They may also choose from among the 1,764 built-in stitches, creatively distort stitches, or create their own patterns with the innovative new Stitch Designer. Additionally, the B 880 comes standard with a seven-inch color touch screen with scrollable navigation, the BERNINA Dual Feed, the BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR), and a Jumbo Bobbin with 80 percent more thread capacity than standard bobbins.
