BERNINA of America, the premier manufacturer of sewing, embroidery and quilting machines, presented a BERNINA 560 (B 560) to Charles Smith II of SMITH II, who was the Dallas Fashion Fund Recipient at the Fashion X Dallas FINALE event on Saturday, September 12. Established in 2014, the Dallas Fashion Fund was created by Fashion X and BERNINA of America with the goal of supporting one emerging Dallas designer with cash, products and services to launch their design careers. Charles competed against three other fashion designers. The B 560 is valued at $3,399.
“Charles’ designs were impressive and very worthy of the award,” said Amy Gutierrez, Director of Marketing for BERNINA of America. “We are pleased to present him with a Swiss-engineered BERNINA 560 to help him build upon his success and bring his ideas to life. BERNINA takes great pride in supporting designers with machines that offer precision and ease of use for a variety of needs.”
The B 560 offers the highest precision sewing features and technology that will keep pace with a sewist’s growing skills and needs. Its five-inch high-resolution color touch screen navigates the machine’s wide range of features and functions, and it has a simple yet classic design that sewists will appreciate. The B 560 also comes equipped with 476 total stitch patterns, an automatic thread cutter and a stitch width up to 9 mm.
“I’m honored to be recognized by BERNINA,” said Charles Smith II. “BERNINA quality and capabilities are unparalleled and the features and functionality of the B 560 will allow me to further explore my creativity.”
Charles was born and raised in New York City where he began his career in the fashion industry as a professional male model at the age of 14. He walked for high fashion brands including Gucci, Fendi, Calvin Klein, and Giorgio Armani and was shot by Karl Lagerfeld for art photography projects. Charles launched his couture label Smith II (pronounced "Smith the Second") in Dallas in 2011 and recently launched his diffusion line S2, offering his visionary aesthetic at a more accessible price.
The B 560 offers an optional embroidery module and is compatible with BERNINA’s cutting edge embroidery software, DesignWorks. DesignWorks features the CutWork, PaintWork and CrystalWork components that can transform the B 560 from an embroidery machine into a mixed media tool. With CutWork, shapes, patterns and designs can be cut from multiple layers of fabric. PaintWork allows the application of pen drawings to fabric and textiles. CrystalWork gives the ability to create crystal appliqué patterns for textiles and garments.
