BERNINA FABRIC FUN 2017 STUDENT FINALE SEW OFF

The excitement started when the 5 finalist of the BERNINA Fabric Fun 2017 Fashion Design Students Competition arrived on Monday morning 9h00 at BERNINA RSA for the final Sew Off which took place over 3 and a half days.

They had to bring their own block pattern and sewing kit. All sewing equipment were provided.

BERNINA RSA supplied 6 meters Schwe Schwe fabric with 2 meters matching  plain colour cotton fabric per student, sewing and overlocking thread as well as notions per their individual requests.

They started with the fashion drawing, then had to make the pattern for the outfit, cutting out the fabric and finally had to construct the designer Schwe Schwe garment.

They only had three and a half days to complete the assignment and the final judging was done on Thursday at 14h00.

All students did their best and all 5 of them are winners in their own right, but unfortunately there could only be one winner and one runner up that received prizes.

The winning student is Juanie Ferreira who is a final year student at LISOF and she received sewing equipment and cash to the value of R86 400-00. The judges were unanimous in their decision.

The runner up student is Jane Mokheti who is a final year student at Vaal University of Technology and she received sewing equipment to the value of R37 000-00.

All 5 the students stated that they learned a lot from this and said that it was a great experience and that they can add this to their CV which will help them in future with their fashion careers.
