BERNINA Launches Entry-Level Sewing-Machine Range under the bernette Label

Tradition-steeped Swiss company BERNINA International AG is launching four economically priced sewing machines for creative people under the bernette label. The new models combine useful functions and features with an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Their striking design was developed by BERNINA in close collaboration with two Industrial Design students.

"Come up with a sewing-machine design that will appeal to a young and sophisticated clientele": this was the self-set task of Mario Rohner and Florian Huber, two Industrial Design students at the Academy of Art and Design, University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland. The pair developed a brand-new cubic, compact sewing machine design which they dubbed blo:c. The bernette blo:c-design models are angular yet rounded: simply elegant, yet equipped with everything needed to produce beautiful children's garments, cuddly toys, cushions or customised outfits. The bernette machines' red display shines through their white surface. Underscoring the blocky shape is the flush-fitted handwheel for manual operation of the needle and feed-dog, whose recessed design also affords perfect protection from damage.

The new series, to be launched successively worldwide in the first six months of 2011, comprises the bernette 12, bernette 15, bernette 20 and bernette 25 models. All four machines are distinguished by their high-quality workmanship and high needle-penetration power. The top-of-the-range bernette 25 features 155 stitch patterns (including alphabet and numbers), which can be sewn in a width of up to 7mm. The memory function allows you to save combinations of up to 30 stitch patterns. In addition, the bernette 25 boasts a speed control, an automatic securing function, and an especially bright sewing light. Eight presser feet are included as standard with the machine.

The entry-level model – the bernette 12 – offers 21 stitch patterns and 5mm stitch width, and is already available at a suggested price of CHF 333.– / EUR 249– (prices may vary from country to country).

The new machines will be available at specialist dealers' in Europe from mid-March.
