The Home Economics and Technology Teachers Association of New Zealand (HETTANZ) Student Fashion Awards are a key event on the national fashion calendar and attracts an amazing range of entries
“The 2015 HETTANZ fashion awards have once again drawn outstanding work from students in schools across Aotearoa New Zealand. The amazing and hard work of all students showcased that garment and textiles construction programs provides a valued education experience. The 2015 entries exemplified that learning and achievement in Fashion and Textiles Technology is centred on high expectations and brilliant teaching. HETTANZ is proud to support Fashion and Textiles Technology teachers and their students through this annual competition. The guest judges Nina Weaver from Massey University and Julie Veck from Bernina who both commented on the high standard of the entries especially the workmanship and presentation.
The awards, proudly supported by Bernina, were open to all school students working in materials technology, fashion technology, clothing and textiles. Schools were asked to manage a ‘selection’ process and send only the best two garments in each category for national judging. Over 70 entries were received across technical and creative categories for junior, senior students and the wearable arts category.
