BERNINA DEALER IN ORLANDO FLORIDA TO DONATE MACHINE AND STITCH REGULATOR TO AREA HIGH SCHOOL

Wandering Stitches assisted class with quilting projects to improve student math skills Donation to happen April 23 during a visit from BERNINA owner Hanspeter Ueltschi

BERNINA of America, the premier manufacturer of sewing, embroidery and quilting machines, is pleased to announce that Wandering Stitches Quilting Studio, an authorized BERNINA Dealer in Orlando, Fla., will donate a BERNINA 710 sewing machine (MSRP: $4,599) and a BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR) to Harmony High School in Harmony, Fla., on April 23.  Earlier this year, Wandering Stitches donated quilting supplies and expertise to students at Harmony High School to help improve their math skills.  The completed quilts were then displayed at the Osceola County Fair in February.  The B 710 and BSR are being donated to celebrate the students’ accomplishments, and Wandering Stitches is presenting the gift during a visit from fourth-generation BERNINA owner Hanspeter Ueltschi, who will be visiting from BERNINA’s home base in Switzerland.  The presentation will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the Dealer, 5818 Hoffner Ave. #905.  Mr. Ueltschi will also be available to meet guests and autograph sewing machines from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Those who would like to reserve a spot can call the Dealer at (407)658-4044.

The idea of strengthening student math skills through quilting was initiated by Cathy Harrington, the fashion design teacher at Harmony High School.  A quilter herself, Ms. Harrington understood the great amount of intricate measuring required for quilting – a practical application that would benefit her students throughout their careers.  So, she challenged her students to create their own quilts and display them at the Osceola County Fair.  Ms. Harrington was also a customer at Wandering Stitches, and she asked Dealer owner Lisa Mullins for assistance on the project.  Not only did Wandering Stitches donate quilting supplies, Ms. Mullins provided in-class lectures to the students.  She was so moved by the experience that she decided to commemorate it by donating the new BERNINA sewing machine and stitching accessory.  With a visit from Mr. Ueltschi scheduled in April, Ms. Mullins knew that it would be the perfect timing for everyone involved.

The B 710 is part of BERNINA’s new 7 Series line of sewing, quilting and embroidery machines, which also features the BERNINA 780 E (Embroidery) and BERNINA 750 QE (Quilter’s Edition). Each 7 Series machine includes an extended freearm area with 10 inches of space to the right of the needle and a practical extension table with ample space to hold larger sewing projects.  The 7 Series is also equipped with a color touchscreen and the integrated BERNINA Dual Feed, which tames hard-to-manage and fine fabrics.

The BERNINA Stitch Regulator is a patented and unique innovation that removes the challenge of maintaining a consistent stitch length as the feed dogs are lowered for fabric movement in all directions.  The BSR provides beginners with the confidence to master increasingly popular free-motion techniques. For more experienced free-motion stitchers, it offers the added security of consistent stitch length, providing the confidence to try more challenging techniques.

Wandering Stitches Quilting Studio is an authorized BERNINA Dealer providing top-quality service to area residents.  The Dealer sells BERNINA sewing machines and software, and also provides a variety of sewing, embroidery and quilting classes for people of all skill levels.  Wandering Stitches is Orlando’s only BERNINA Dealer and dedicates itself to the care and service of sewing machines by offering master classes, a full service department and various accessories for sewing and embroidery needs.
