Supporting BERNINA features

It is important to us that BERNINA customers are empowered, can be independent, and can fully enjoy their creative hobby. Below are some BERNINA products and features that make sewing, embroidery and quilting easier and accessible.

Features and functions that support your motor skills

Clip-on presser feet

Clip-on presser feet

BERNINA presser feet can be easily attached in few steps thanks to the clip-on function. Simply push the clamping lever up, remove the presser foot, attach the new foot over the cone and press the clamping lever down.

Presser foot pressure

Presser foot pressure

With most BERNINA sewing machines, you have the option of adjusting the presser foot pressure. Thanks to this feature, the fabric is fed and guided better.

While you can manually adjust the pressure, BERNINA machines like the B 570 QE and B 790 PLUS even automatically adjust the presser foot pressure.

Easy mounting of special presser feet

Easy mounting of special presser feet

Not only do we make a point of constructing high-quality sewing feet, but we also make their handling as user-friendly as possible. The guide of the Patchwork Foot #97D, for example, can be mounted easily and quickly using the small screwdriver with rubber grip supplied.

Three-Sole Walking Foot with Seam Guide #50

Three-Sole Walking Foot with Seam Guide #50

The Three-Sole Walking Foot with Seam Guide #50 helps to feed the fabric thereby making difficult or patterned fabrics much easier to sew. Stripes and checks stay matched and fabrics which tend to stick move smoothly under the foot. The addition of a seam guide helps to keep seams perfectly straight and is invaluable for decorative top-stitching.

Slide-on Table

The BERNINA Slide-on Table makes your sewing more comfortable and precise as it increases the existing work space. At the same time, its special shape ensures that freearm functionality remains available, and that fabric feeds smoothly during sewing.

The increased sewing area facilitates work on complex sewing projects with intricate decorative stitching and embellishments. The extension table also supports hemming tasks.

Speed reduction function

On some models, the speed can be set in the Setup screen of the machine so it is not possible to sew too fast.

Moreover, all current models feature a slide that allows you to adjust the sewing speed infinitely. Move the slide either to left or right to reduce or increase the speed.

DC Motor for regulated speed control

DC Motor for regulated speed control

In contrast to AC Motors (Alternating Current), the DC, or Direct Current, Motor offers the key advantage of strong power at low speed, as the electronics can govern power delivery to the motor at any speed.

The machine maintains the selected speed and comes to a stop even faster. Moreover, thanks to the electronic speed control of the DC Motor, you can sew one stitch at a time.

Color touch screen and</br> easy-to-use buttons

Color touch screen and
easy-to-use buttons

You can easily find all stitches and functions on the centrally located color touch screen. The large icons are grouped intuitively and allow you to navigate quickly, and the high sensitivity of the touch screen makes operation particularly user-friendly.

Modern BERNINA machines feature direct-selection buttons to, for instance, start or stop the machine, to cut the thread automatically or to raise and lower the presser foot.

Needle up/down

Needle up/down

The Needle up/down feature can be very handy as the needle will always stop down, so the fabric can be rotated on the needle when changing direction or the needle can always stop up, so the fabric can be removed very quickly.

Annika Victoria, BERNINA Expert DYI lover and YouTuber

In 2011, Annika Victoria started her own fashion blog where she shared her outfits. It was through this blog that she first discovered the vast DIY community on the internet as well as her own love of sewing and crafting. At this time she was diagnosed with Takayasu’s Arthritis – an incurable autoimmune disease. The blog and sewing became a world all its own where she could escape the cares and worries about her illness and treatments.

Annika speaks openly about living with a disability and about her experience being occasionally restricted to a wheelchair. She also demonstrates that you do not have to fit into standard sizes in order to wear the clothes that you like, and that you should love your body just the way it is. In the meantime, Annika has become a full-time DIY YouTuber and an advocate for sewing and recycling.

Pre-programmed stitches. Auto Securing Stitch

Pre-programmed stitches. Auto Securing Stitch

There are several pre-programmed stitches that simplify the stitching process, for example the securing program which automatically sews securing stitches at the start of the pattern.

Changing the stitch plate is very convenient and does not require any screws. Simply press the stitch plate down at the mark back right until it flips up.

Multi-function knobs – </br> large and comfortable

large and comfortable

Rather than having to use buttons, you can simply use the large multi-function knobs. For instance, to adjust the length and width of the stitch or to rotate and position the design in the embroidery area.

Needle threader

Needle threading is a breeze for needles between size 70 and 110. The semi-automatic threader makes threading easier than ever. A few simple steps, and the thread is in place.

Multiple thread cutters

Multiple thread cutters

Depending on the machine, there are at least 3 external thread cutters – by the bobbin winder, bobbin area and to the left of the needle. You will need no scissors to cut threads.

Automatic thread cutter

Virtually all current BERNINA sewing machines have a large button that allows you to cut threads by a push.
The button is conveniently placed on the faceplate near the needle.

Moreover, automatic cuts can also be preprogrammed to include securing stitches.
