Quilting Tales - Kate Aimson

Welcome to Quilting Tales brought to you by Bernina UK.

This is the ninth instalment in an ongoing series of video interviews with quilters who would like to tell their story and share their passion.

Explore the inspiration behind Kate Aimson's quilt, "Stitch Journal - Tristan da Cunha". Kate began work on this unique quilt while preparing for a trip to Tristan da Cunha, the world’s most remote inhabited island. Each section represents a part of her journey through health as well as the sea voyage. This quilt was put together by hand sewing prepared hexagons and appliquéing motifs for each journey "event" onto the original ground. It took Kate an impressive 9 months to complete - the length of her trip! We love the unusual shape, which attracted much attention on its display at The Festival of Quilts, and how it’s rolled up on an old bobbin from the Pennines mills…we hope you enjoy Kate’s tale.
