BERNINA of America is pleased to announce that its Dealer in Austin, Texas, Sew Much More, has remodeled and revamped the Garment Construction Lab at the University of Texas – Austin. The Lab, located in Gearing Hall, now features 40 BERNINA sewing machines and sergers along with new workspace furniture, studio mirrors, updated wiring and cables, and more efficient lighting. The refurbished Lab will enable students to design garments in a professional, creative environment that is conducive to learning.
“We are grateful to Sew Much More owners Ron and Barbara Goldkorn for their generosity and willingness to help reconstruct the lab and for donating BERNINA machines so that our students can create, design and be inspired,“ said Eve Nicols, Distinguished Senior Lecturer, Division of Textiles and Apparel, School of Human Ecology, College of Natural Sciences.
The Goldkorn’s have had a long-standing relationship with the University where they have maintained BERNINA sewing machines in the Lab for more than a decade. They have also played an active role in the annual University of Texas – Austin Fashion Show and have had the opportunity to judge over 130 designs presented by senior students each year.
“After touring the Lab, we realized it desperately needed a makeover,” said Ron Goldkorn, owner of BERNINA Dealer, Sew Much More. “Having immigrated to the USA over 30 years ago, we felt a need to express our appreciation for the opportunities afforded us here in Austin as well as in the United States and being able to remodel the Lab and in so doing enhance the student experience sparking their creativity is our way of giving back.”
