Though she has been sewing her own clothes since she was twelve, Kazu Huggler never wanted to be a designer.  For sewing and fashion were her "sacred" hobby, and the fear that it might be spoiled for her was too overwhelming. Fortunately, she decided otherwise.

More About Kazu Huggler

Born in Tokyo, Kazu Huggler is the daughter of a Japanese mother and a Swiss father. She attended high school in Zurich and then studied art at Keio University in Tokyo. Additional studies at the School of Design in Zurich provided the creative and technical foundation for her future career.

However, Kazu did not stay in Switzerland long. She was soon drawn to London to attend the prestigious Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design. During her time in London, she completed an internship with design icon Vivienne Westwood. In 2002 she successfully completed her studies and presented her work at the famous "Fashion in Motion" show with other Saint Martin's graduates at the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Kazu Huggler now lives with her family in Zurich and owns her own label KAZU. Her clothes are still strongly inspired by Japan - whether in terms of exclusive materials, which she designs and produces herself - or in the forms that her creations take. Kazu's designs are unique, making women feel comfortable while emphasizing the individual beauty of the wearer. The connection between the Swiss sewing machine manufacturer BERNINA and Kazu Huggler is longstanding. Even as a child, the designer sewed with a BERNINA sewing machine. To this day, she has remained faithful to the Steckborn-based family company and uses BERNINA's innovative sewing and embroidery systems to implement her designs in her Zurich studio. In March 2011, a tsunami devastated large parts of the northeast coast of Japan. This event affected Kazu Huggler deeply, influenced her fashion work and led her to establish a private aid project which is also supported by BERNINA.
