  • Front: Cut 1 on fold

  • 1. Set your machine for a 5-thread stitch and sew one shoulder seam with the right sides of the garment facing each other using a 1.25mm (½”) seam allowance. Press your seam allowance towards the back of the garment.

  • 2. Set your machine for a 4-thread serger (overlock) stitch. Align the neckline binding to the neckline with right sides facing and sew the binding to the neckline.

  • 3. Press the neck binding away from the shirt and fold it to the wrong side. Press the raw edge under making sure it extends slightly past the seam line so that you catch it in the next step.

  • 4. Set your machine for a chain stitch and stitch in the ditch along the binding from the right side of the shirt. Make sure you catch the back side of the binding to secure it in place.

  • 5. Set your machine for a 5-thread stitch and sew the other shoulder. Press seam allowances towards the back of the garment.

  • 6. Still with your 5 thread, sew the side seams of the garment from the hem to the armhole notch using a 1.25mm (½”) seam allowance. Again, right sides should be facing and the seam allowance should be pressed to the back.

  • 7. Align the short sides of each sleeve together and sew using your 5-thread setup. Press the seam allowance to one side.

  • 8. Fold the sleeve in half and press.

  • 9. Clip to but not through the stitching line at the armhole notch.

  • 10. Align the sleeves with the armholes on the right side of the shirt. The sleeve seams should match with the side seams. Stitch around the sleeve openings with your 5-thread setup. Press the sleeves away from the garment.

  • 11. Fold the hem in 1" and under 1" and press. Stitch the hem with chainstitch.

  • 1. Set your machine up for a 4-thread overlock stitch. Align the shoulder seams with right sides facing and stitch. Press seam allowances to the back.

  • 2. Fold your sleeves in half with the long sides meeting and press. Place the sleeves along the armholes on the right side of the shirt. The edges of the sleeves will match the notches in the side seams. Stitch the sleeves to the shirt with your 4-thread setup. Press the sleeves away from the shirt.

  • 3. Fold the shirt over so that the underarm and side seams of the front align with those of the back. Again, the right sides should be facing. Stitch along the seam line starting from the edge of the sleeve underarm down to the shirt hem. Press seam allowances to the back

  • 4. To attach the neckband, bring the two short edges of the neckband together with the right sides facing. Sew along the edge with your 4-thread stitch and press the seam allowance to one side.

  • 5. Fold the neckband in half lengthwise and press.

  • 6. Align the neckband with the neck opening, stretching the band to fit. Stitch along the edge joining the neckband and shirt. Press the neckband up, away from the shirt.

  • 7. Set your machine for a coverstitch and press up 2cm (3/4”). With the right side of the shirt up at your machine, stitch along the hem securing the raw edge in place.

Done!

The top can be perfectly combined with a comfortable jersey dress.
